16th Annual Phoenix Jewish Film Festival

Annual event icon

Today through February 26
United Artists Theaters
Scottsdale

For the past 16 years, the Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival (GPJFF) has been a highly anticipated cultural event that has exceeded the expectations of those who seek a stimulating film experience. This year, the organization is bringing even more films to the West Valley with a showcase at Harkins theater in Peoria.

This year's Festival promises to offer a great selection of films. Whether your taste leans toward dramas, documentaries, love stories or comedies-it has something for everyone. The 16th Annual Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival will run Sunday, February 12th through Sunday, February 26th and films will be shown at three valley locations: Harkins Camelview 5 Scottsdale, Harkins Crossroads 12 Chandler; and Harkins Arrowhead 18 Peoria. Ticket Prices arejust$10.00 for adults and $5 for students.

Many of the films will be followed by thought-provoking discussions hosted by discussion leaders who are prominent in their fields. Three filmmakers will appear at the Festival - Jason Hutt, director/producer "Orthodox Stance"; Ben Loeterman , writer/director/executive producer "The People v Leo Frank"; and George Zaverdas. writer/director of the short film "David & Goliath." Other discussion leaders include a boxer, three rabbis, a Holocaust scholar and an educator, and a film critic.

Here's a taste of what's in store this year. "Hidden Children", the true saga of two little French Jewish boys sheltered by a devout Catholic woman when their parents were sent to their deaths in a concentration camp, will tug at your heart. "The People v Leo Frank is a powerful docudrama of a murder in 1913 Atlanta. Writer/Director/Producer Ben Loeterman will speak in Scottsdale and Chandler. In "David", two young boys, a Jew and a Muslim, become friends, but what happens to the friendship? See this film for all ages. "Remembrance" is an epic romance spanning 3 decades of a Polish partisan and a Jewish woman who are reunited years after escaping from a Nazi death camp. For a complete listing of all of the films to be featured at the 2011 event, visit http://gpjff.org.

The GPJFF has stayed true to its vision: To increase awareness of the variety and richness of Jewish culture among all residents of the Valley of the Sun. They accomplish their goal by presenting films reflecting past, present, and future themes of Jewish life worldwide and by encouraging participation of all faiths in the Festival. These are just good films for everyone.

The Festival is a non-profit 501(c)(3) cultural corporation, with a vision to present outreach programs to our entire community to foster brotherhood, educate against prejudice, and to make the Festival one of international prominence by using the medium of film. And while the GPJFF is an annual event their outreach is ongoing. Namely, "Films in the Schools" has attained phenomenal success in secular and religious schools since its inception in 2007; it's reached approximately 3500 students at 35 schools.
