23rd Annual Bisbee 1000 –The Great Stair Climb
~ CELEBRATE ENJOY RELAX ~
Are you ready? Because as the days get shorter and the temperatures cool down, the party shifts into high gear and the race heats up! On Saturday, October 19, the 23rd Annual Bisbee 1000 Great Stair Climb and the 2nd Annual Bisbee 1000 Invitational BEST OF THE WEST Craft Beer Festival are the much-anticipated opportunities to experience a full weekend devoted to fitness and fun.
This weekend combines two popular activities: Getting a good hard workout and drinking beer. What's more, you get to feel even better about it all because you are helping to raise money for the Bisbee Vogue Inc./ Nancy's Center for Non-Profits whose missions are to provide and support initiatives that improve the well being of citizens in southern Arizona.
The Bisbee 1000 is more than just the only Outdoor Stair Climb event in the USA; it is a festive occasion where you'll find runners decked out in everything from patriotic garb to practically nothing at all. This year we are formally recognizing what has become a tradition at the Bisbee 1000: Doing the event in costume.
We are giving out special awards to those with the wackiest, most creative, most outrageous Costumes... Let yourself go, dress up, and come out for a good time, (which has nothing to do with mile splits!). Check the photos on our website at www.bisbee1000.org and our Facebook page for costumes in previous years to inspire you.
This year the 2nd Bisbee 1000 Invitational Best in the West Craft Beer Festival promises to be even bigger and better as we move the venue outdoors and increase the number of Craft Brewers. It is scheduled for Saturday only with VIP entry from noon to 1:00 p.m. ($75.00) and General Admission from 1-5 p.m. ($25.00 or $20.00 for those who have done the Bisbee 1000—your bib is your verification)
To get you Stair Climbers inspired for the after party, the start of the Bisbee 1000 will feature "The Running of the Beers" in which Beer-costume-clad participants set off ahead of the first corral of the Bisbee 1000—a far less harrowing spinoff of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
IF THAT ISN'T ENOUGH FOR YOU...
The Bisbee 1000 Ironman Ice competition—sponsored by Reddy Ice—offers you yet another opportunity to test your grit (and your sanity!) This event known as "the event within the event" will start at 11:00 a.m.—time enough to finish the Stair Climb and then register for the competition. Or you can simply skip the Stair Climb and save yourself for the Ironman Ice Competition.
In this event, you will climb a set of 155 stairs while carrying a 10# block of ice in a pair of antique metal tongs. Once you reach the top of the stairs get ready for a short, winding downhill run to the finish line.
This kind of anaerobic agony will surely tweak your desire for plenty of the finest Craft Brew Beer in the west. And this year the proceeds will go to support the Women's Basketball Team at Cochise College who will all be there helping to run the event.
