Wrapping up Wagner’s 15-hour, four-part Ring des Nibelungen, the Twilight of the Gods presents the betrayal and death of the lovers Siegfried and Brünnhilde, the latter dying in the famous Immolation Scene which depicts the destruction of Valhalla, the fall of the gods, and the return of the ring to the Rhinemaidens, ending this immense musical work. Deborah Voigt and Gary Lehman again sing the roles of the lovers, with Eric Owens as Alberich and Hans-Peter König as Hagen. Noted soprano Waltraud Meier appears as Waltraute. James Levine will conduct.
Approximate running Time: 6 hours 14 minutes (On Air: 10:00 – 4:14pm). Two intermissions.
