Red Release Celebration

Today through February 12
Canelo Hills Vineyards and Winery
Elgin

Canelo Hills Vineyard and Winery in Elgin will mark the release of 5 new red wines with a Red
Release Celebration on Saturday-Sunday, February 11 and 12 from 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. All five new wines will be available to sample and purchase in the Canelo Hills tasting room, and local artists and craftspeople will show and sell their work.
Canelo Hills  winemaker Tim Mueller states “we’ve been waiting a long time for these red wines, and for the release weekend we’ll have all five on the tasting table. After the weekend, only one or two will be available for tasting each week, so our Red Release Celebration is a great chance for our customers to try all the new wines at once and to be the first to do so.”

All five of the new wines are made on-site from Arizona grapes, and three are Estate wines crafted from the grapes Farmer Joan Mueller cultivates in Canelo Hills’ vineyard. The Estate wines being released are the 2009 Tempranillo, 2009 Scavenger's Blend, and 2009 Finalé (a dessert wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes). Canelo Hills will also release the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and their 2008 Sangiovese Select, which was barrel-aged for 3 years. The Finalé and Sangiovese Select have already won awards pre-release.

Three local artists will also be at Canelo Hills for the celebration. Sonoita’s Sylvia Saenz works in watercolor paintings and papier maché animal sculptures. Joel Blumenthal of The Herb Garden in Sonoita will bring her herbal crafts, wine bottle covers, tortilla warmer covers, soaps, jellies and honeys, spice rubs and herbal teas, and also treats to eat along with the red wine. Vail’s Margaret Aden traveled extensively as a former Naval Officer, and draws upon many cultural influences when creating her funky, modern jewelry designs.

Canela Bistro in Sonoita will offer a special Winemaker dinner on Saturday, February 11 as part of the Canelo Hills Red Release Celebration. They will serve a five-course dinner, each course thoughtfully prepared to pair with each of the five new red wines. Reservations are recommended; contact Canela Bistro directly.
Admission to the Red Release Celebration is free. Wine tasting is $8/person (21+ only) or $5 if you bring your own glass. For reservations for the wine dinner at Canela, call Canela Bistro at 520-455-5873. For more information, call Canelo Hills at 520-455-5499 or visit www.canelohillswinery.com.
