Tres Rios Nature Festival
Today
through March 7
Estrella Mountain Regional Park
Goodyear
The Tres Rios Nature and Earth Festival scheduled for March 6-7, 2010, will be moved to Estrella Mountain Regional Park. Heavy runoff from this winter’s rainstorms have made the usual site near Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) temporarily unusable.
"We regret having to move the festival at this late date, but our usual site was not conducive to hosting a safe and comfortable venue for this great event," said Tom Hildebrandt of the Arizona Game and Fish Department, chair of the Tres Rios steering committee.
Located south of Goodyear, Estrella Mountain Park served as the host site during the festival’s early years. Festival hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission to the event is free. There is a $2 per vehicle parking fee at the park.
Attendees will continue to enjoy a wide variety of activities, including hiking, bird watching, kids' fishing and nature areas, educational and entertaining booths, great music from the Back Porch Bandits, plus quality food and drink booths.
From central Phoenix, Estrella Mountain Regional Park is reached by taking I-10 west to Estrella Parkway. Take the parkway south to Vineyard Ave., and then turn left to the park entrance on the right side. For more information, visit http://www.tresriosnaturefestival.com or call (623) 932-2260.
Feb. 20 cleanup is still scheduled at original site
You can help preserve the heritage, wildlife and natural beauty of the Gila, Salt and Agua Fria Rivers by taking part in a “spring cleaning" this Saturday, Feb. 20.
The cleanup begins at 7 a.m. and should last until about 11 a.m. Volunteers are asked to meet at the northern-most parking lot of the Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, five miles south of I-10 on Avondale Boulevard (7602 S. Avondale Blvd.). Bring work gloves, sunscreen, sun glasses, a hat and drinking water. Wear old work clothes and dress for the weather.
The cleanup is a joint effort sponsored by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, City of Avondale, City of Goodyear, Wildlife for Tomorrow Foundation, and the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
