Walgreens Charity Classic Golf Tournament
through February 24
Grandview Golf Course
Sun City West
The Legends Tour, official senior tour of the LPGA, announced that some of the biggest names in women’s golf will return to Grandview Golf Club in Sun City West for the second annual Walgreens Charity Classic.
Tickets are available now in all seven Recreation Centers of Sun City West pro shops, as well as the Sun City West Box Office.
The two-day, 36-hole, no-cut tournament will feature 44 Legends of the LPGA vying for a $225,000 purse. The professional event will be held Feb. 23-24, following a 32-team pro-am tournament on Friday, Feb. 22.
Defending champion Rosie Jones, winner of 13 LPGA Tour victories and five Legends Tour titles, will headline an all-star cast of LPGA Legends, including Hall of Famer and Phoenix native Betsy King. King posted a tie for 15th last year at the inaugural Walgreens Charity Classic.
LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame member Pat Bradley will tee it up with her peers for the 29th time on The Legends Tour. Sweden’s Liselotte Neumann, a 13-time LPGA Tour champion, has two top-10 finishes in four starts on The Legends Tour, including a tie for third at the 2012 Walgreens Charity Classic. Neumann will be back to challenge Jones and the rest of the talent-packed Legends field for the 2013 title.
New to the 2013 tournament roster will be Danielle Ammaccapane, Lorie Kane and Michele Redman. Ammaccapane, an Arizona State University alumna and former NCAA champion, won eight times on the LPGA Tour. Kane is a four-time LPGA winner with one win and five top-10 finishes in five appearances on The Legends Tour. Redman, a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour with one Legends Tour victory, hopes to add another Legends Tour title in her first trip to the Walgreens event.
Twenty-one more players will complete the tournament roster in the coming weeks. One spot in the field is reserved for the player who qualifies in a local qualifying event, held early in the tournament week. The current roster appears below.
Tournament tickets are now on sale for $15/adult for the weekend. Sun City West residents who purchase tickets at the Rec Centers’ pro shops or Box Office and show their rec cards can save $5. Children under 17 and military personnel with ID gain free admission. For more information, please visit www.thelegendstour.com/tickets.
