Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to Avondale yearly to experience all types of national sporting events. Home to Phoenix International Raceway (PIR), Avondale is host to two NASCAR races annually. Avondale is also less than five miles away from the Arizona Cardinals' University of Phoenix Stadium. Avondale History & Culture
Settled in the 1880s, Avondale (known as "Coldwater") was just a stagecoach stop on the way to the Golden Coast. Avondale was eventually incorporated in 1946, and at that time was flourishing as a farming community. Now Avondale boosts more than 76,000 residents…and is far from the stagecoach stop from yesterday – it's a modern and vibrant community!
