Arizona Office of Tourism Launches New Resource for Outdoor Activities

Online Resource Facilitates Finding Information on Arizona’s Abundant State, National, Federal, and Local Parks 

PHOENIX (May 06, 2010) – Through a new interactive and informative Web site tool, the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) is reminding travelers of the abundance of travel experiences available throughout the Grand Canyon State. Whether you are a resident looking for a short-day trip to a local park or a first-time visitor wanting to experience the magnificence of the Grand Canyon National Park, outdoor opportunities are available in Arizona!  

To bring attention with amazing outdoor adventures that can be found throughout the state, AOT has developed the new Arizona Parks and Monuments Web site resource listing all of the national parks and monuments, federal recreational areas, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sites, state parks, Tribal Lands, cultural and historical locations, and city parks. In fact, Arizona boasts more than 250 locations where visitors can experience the state’s exhilarating outdoor activities. The webpage can be found on www.Arizonaguide.com under the Places to Visit tab and by clicking on Arizona Parks and Monuments.  

 “We are extremely fortunate that Arizona is filled with an incredible amount of outdoor opportunities that our visitors can enjoy,” said Sherry Henry, director of the Arizona Office of Tourism. “From the Grand Canyon National Park to the Tucson Presidio Historic walking trail, visitors can discover an exciting variety of outdoor adventures through this wonderful new resource.”

To further broaden the awareness of Arizona’s offerings, the Arizona Office of Tourism, in collaboration with the Arizona Council for Enhancing Recreation & Tourism (ACERT), has created a comprehensive recreational and historic site map showcasing all of the diverse, outdoor attractions found within the Grand Canyon State. ACERT is a group formed to encourage federal, state, universities and not-for-profit organizations to work together to achieve the common goals of advancing the public's awareness of tourism and recreation opportunities on public lands and in rural and tribal areas of the State of Arizona. 

The ACERT Map details what activities can be enjoyed in each recreational location, such as where to boat, fish, raft, canoe, swim, view mountain vistas or wildlife, find historical locations, ride equestrian trails, locate hiking or biking trails and discover campsites.  The ACERT Map will be available in May.  

 “The ACERT Map is an incredibly valuable visitor tool as well as is the Web site,” said Glenn Schlottman, ACERT council chairman. “With this resource, visitors will be able to find information on hundreds of outdoor locations.” 

AOT is working in partnership with ACERT which is comprised of the Arizona Commission on the Arts, Arizona Department of Commerce, Arizona Department of Education, Arizona Department of Transportation, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Arizona State Parks, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Arizona Humanities Council, Museum Association of Arizona, Audubon Arizona, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service.

From fishing along Arizona’s rivers and lakes, hiking beautiful mountain ranges, biking along secluded highways, skiing on mountain tops or camping on the desert floor, Arizona is an adventurous state where the sun shines more than 325 days a year and where there is always something new to discover outdoors.
