Wilhelm Family Vineyard
Kevin and Karyl Wilhelm bought 20 beautiful acres of rolling Sonoita-Elgin wine-growing land in 2003. Their first varietals, Syrah and Tempranillo, were planted in 2005, and soon proved Sonoita, at almost 5,000 feet, has a wonderful terrior for fine winegrowing. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, and a Spanish white, Albarino, known for its delicate apricot/peach flavors, were planted the following year. Over 5 acres are currently producing grapes for their wines, with 3 more acres planned for other varietals soon.
Along with their wines, the Wilhelm’s 6,000 sq. ft winery is available for custom crush, winemaking and barrel storage for large and small processing operations. Also, prospective winemakers trapped in the city without winemaking resources can use the facility to create their masterpieces, large or small. Karyl, the resident winemaker, just finished the Winemaking Certification program at University of California, Davis, and is available to assist with the process as desired.
Open weekends 11-4 and by appointment, when your visiting opportunity only occurs during the week.
